Niedeckers poetry is hard to comprehend at times, her word choices and the way she tells her life stories are also sometimes hard to grasp also and in order for me to understand, I have to search on google. There are a few poems of hers that's easy to kind of get a good idea. Her poems are based on her daily life living in Fort Atkinson, WI with her mom (whom is hearing impaired) where it is always raining and getting flooded, causing destruction around her home and the town. There was a poem she wrote about her family which only really consists of her and her mom, her father wasn't really around and she talks about how she spends time with her mom. Almost all of her poems pertain her mother, and they seem to have a very close relationship with one another. She does a lot of the work around the house for her mom, she helps take care of her. Most times I never know the way Niedecker feelings about certain things, she doesn't really express them in a way for me to understand, but depending on the poem and what she's talking about, sometimes it's easy to figure out.
I have a story similar to Niedecker how it always rains in her town, and one time we had a nonstop raining day and we were upset because it was all wet and nasty outside and even our basement floor had gotten flooded out. I like the bond that Niedecker has with her mother, I'm the same way with my mom. My mom is more like my best friend, I can talk to her about any and everything and she won't judge me, she'll just give me the best advice and hope that I take it into consideration which I do. I always help her and she always helps me. My father is in my life so I can't really compare the two lives together (my life and Niedeckers).
Sometimes I wonder when I'm reading Niedeckers poems, what makes her choose the wordings she choose for her poems. Although it's different, like I said before it's kind of difficult for me to understand. If she was alive, I would want to ask her, what her life was like living the way the lived, did she ever have hopes and dreams, where and what she wanted to do with her life and did she ever feel like she was alone. Did she not have a friend or two that lived nearby, what she did with her free time or did she just sit up with her mom all day everyday.
